where to start when your home is cluttered

WHERE TO START WHEN YOUR HOME IS CLUTTERED

There’s nothing worse than a cluttered home. The overwhelming feeling of stress and hate for your home is not something you want to be feeling at any time when it comes to your property. So with that in mind, here’s where to start when your home is cluttered.

Have A Seasonal Declutter

A seasonal declutter is a good opportunity to stay on top of the build-up that naturally happens in your household. As our life goes by, we’re bringing a lot of clutter through our door. So try and time it that at the end of each season, you do a seasonal cleanse in the form of a declutter.

You and your household can work around each room and can go through your belongings to sort out what can be chucked or sold, and what needs to stay. You’ve probably picked up stuff before that’s not yours, but it’s something that can be chucked by another person in your household.

Stop Clutter At The Door

All of the clutter that we have in our home has come from somewhere outside. That means it comes through our door.  In order to stop clutter from spreading, it’s a better process if you can stop the clutter at the door in the first place.

A lot of paperwork can build up in boxes, in drawers, and on shelves. Having a table or side cabinet at the entryway of the home can be ideal for stopping the clutter from going any further. Instead, take a moment every time you’re bringing stuff in like letters, etc. to go through and to leave any that you don’t have time to sort on the side cabinet.

The same can go for anything else, and then you can regularly check on this area when it starts to build up and to have a proper purge then. The problem when you bring it into your home is that it often gets left somewhere and then moved and stays there until you find it some months or years later.

Invest In External Storage

The home can become a dumping ground for your stuff, but at the same time, we tend to outgrow our own homes, and instead of selling up and moving somewhere bigger we just fill it up with more and more clutter.

External storage is something that homeowners or those renting may want to have in order to keep things they may not use very often but have sentimental or financial value. Therefore a secure unit offsite might just be the perfect solution! Check out the storage facilities around your area, and it might free up some valuable space in your home.

Change Your Habits

And finally, you can always look to change your habits. Watch what you’re spending and stop shopping for these you don’t really need.   Try to find the importance of what you’re keeping in your home. If it’s valuable, keep it, but if it has no value emotionally or practically, then chuck it.

Live your life from now on, clutter-free, and happy with these simple tips.
