4 WAYS TO GET OUT OF A WORK FROM HOME RUT

A lot of people are perfectly happy to find a position they work well in from home. They do what they can to keep  making money. However, many people need to have a sense of progression, a sense that they’re ever building towards a better paid and more fulfilling career. If this is how you feel, here are four ways to get out of a work from home rut and feel like you’re moving forward.

1. Network to Build Connections

When you’re working from home, it’s easy to get stuck doing one-time projects from a single client or source that you don’t hear from again. Try to transition to longer-term relationships that see you getting recurring work. If you’re working as a writer or blogger for instance, then affiliate marketing partnerships are a good example of this.

When you find recurring work, not only can you start to build relationships that lead you to get referred to others, but you can also spend less time looking for work and more time actually making money.

2. Get the Training and Education You Need

You are steadily going to improve in your career by building fruitful business relationships and by gaining experience along the way. However, you can still keep training and educating yourself even when you’re at home with the help of online courses from places like Bradley University.

As such, whether you’re aiming to transition into a different career or simply to earn the skills that can support the work you’re doing at home, you should always devote at least a little time in the week towards learning a new skill or getting a new qualification or certification that makes you a more marketable professional.

3. Make a Name For Yourself

Some people get stuck in the rut of doing great work but finding that it never really leads anywhere because their name isn’t attached to it. Working with agencies or on freelancing sites isn’t enough. You need to do work that reflects well on you by building your own website with a portfolio or testimonials from those you have worked with before. That way, you can at least make sure that you’re building the kind of presence that can help you more easily market yourself to better value clients.

4. Know When to Say No

If you’re starting to build up your client list and you’re getting more steady work then now is the time to consider which work is worth doing more of, and which simply doesn’t offer enough in return for you to stick with it. Business Know-How gives some good examples of both when you should say “no” and the best ways to do it. You need to set your own standards for both pay and what is expected of you and stop stooping down to do work that isn’t profitable.

It’s important to spend as much time working on yourself as you do working to make money. Hopefully, the tips above show you how that can be done.
