ways to cut your bills

3 WAYS TO CUT BILLS AND LIVE MORE SUSTAINABLY

Climate change is dominating the news right now. For good reasons, we all should be looking at how we can live more sustainably and be less wasteful.

As well as reducing our carbon footprint, we can also look to save ourselves money by reducing our consumption of single-use items and resources.

So, how can you start to live a more sustainable life? There are so many small changes you can make that can help you use less, whilst also saving money and becoming more eco-friendly.  Today we will look at 3 simple things you can do.

1. Transport

We all know that walking and cycling are better for our bodies and the environment.  Public transport is also a way you can travel more eco-friendly too. More people using public transport means fewer cars on the road.

But, if you need a car and want to reduce your fuel consumption, then it is worth considering an electric car. For a good family car, look for the best electrified SUVs so you can keep your family safe and comfortable whilst also getting more for your money and doing your part to reduce emissions and fuel usage too.

Electric cars are cheaper to run and to repair as they have fewer parts that will break down or need repairing due to wear and tear.

2. Become More Sustainable

At home, look at the ways you can reduce your waste as well as your expenditure. Look for items that can be used again and again, such as Tupperware over plastic wrap and reusable drinks bottles over plastic bottles of water.

Planning ahead will mean you are able to be prepared for days out, work lunches etc. Make extra at mealtimes so you can take your lunch to work or simply freeze for another time to avoid ordering takeaway or skipping meals altogether. This is ideal for those looking to reduce food spending.

Are you green-fingered? If so have you considered growing your own fruits and vegetables? This is a great way to become more sustainable and lower your food bills.

3. Become More Conscious of What You Use

Look at ways you can cut down on what you use at home when it comes to your utilities. Investing in LED light bulbs will mean they not only last longer but also use less energy.

Turning off electrical outlets and lights when not in use is something you can get into the habit of doing. Also, closing all doors when you have the heating on to conserve the heat and not let it escape through open doors and windows can make a big difference.

Look for signs of draughts and consider getting your home fully insulated – walls, windows, lofts and cellars. This will help you reduce your heating bills as well as turning down your thermostat a few degrees.

Using a water butt can help you reduce how much water you are using. Use collected rainwater for watering your lawn or plants/vegetable garden and your car. You can even use it in the toilet to help you reduce how much you need to flush too!

By being mindful, there are lots of ways you can cut your bills and save on spending too.
