HOW TO STOP STRESS AFFECTING YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM

Our Immune System is what keeps us healthy.  It helps us to fight off disease and protect our bodies.  There are lots of things that can affect our immune system and one of the main culprits is stress.

With careers, home life, family life, and so on, we can often start to feel stressed out about things. The overwhelm can be very real.  This is especially true when it feels like there are so many things that are taking over or that we have to do. But the good news is that there are a lot of things that you can do to help you to deal with the stress in your life and help you to cope. They aren’t going to take the things away that are causing the stress necessarily, but they can really make a difference. Here are some things to think about.

Avoid Too Much Caffeine and Alcohol

If you can avoid, or at least aim to reduce your intake of caffeinated drinks, alcohol, and even things containing nicotine, then it can go a long way to helping your stress levels. Caffeine and nicotine are all classed as stimulants. If you are looking to rest and relax, then they aren’t going to be doing anything to help.  In the long term they will start to affect your immune system and weaken your body’s ability to fight back.

Alcohol is also classed as a depressant, when a lot is consumed, but is also a stimulant when there are small amounts. So, short-term these can look like quick fixes to get all things done that you need to. However, in the long-term, they can have the opposite impact. Instead, reach for water, herbal teas, and some diluted and freshly-squeezed fruit juice.

Indulge in Physical Activity

When you are feeling stressed, then you will have more stress hormones in your body, like cortisol and adrenaline. These are hormones that can have a ‘fight or flight’ impact on your body; in some circumstances, this will be useful. But really, if you have too much, then it can be damaging. So moving more and exercising can be what you need to metabolize the excess stress hormones in your body, and it can help to leave you feeling more calm, relaxed, and restored, for both mind and soul.  These can all help to stop stress affecting your immune system.

Consider an Alternative Therapy

When it comes to feeling well and feeling less stressed, there are a few other alternative things that you can try to help your stress levels and help you to feel calm and rested.

You could try something like massage or reflexology as a way to relax and help your health, as well as trying out something like wellbeing psychic readings. Some things will work for some people, and some things will work for others, so try out what is going to work best for you and then you can go from there.

Get More Sleep

Sleep is so important for your immune system.  Getting a good night’s sleep can help strengthen your immunity, making you stronger to fight off illness and disease.

A lack of sleep is also something that can be a significant cause of stress. But the sad news is that sleep can be impacted if you are feeling stressed, and that can make it hard for us to relax. So, instead of taking something and relying on medication, then you should try to take some steps to be more relaxed before it comes to bedtime. You should also aim to be able to go to be at the same time of day, every day, and then you can get into a bit of a routine. The benefit of a good night’s sleep can be felt very quickly indeed!
