WALKING WITH CHILDREN – TOP TIPS TO ENJOY THE HIKE
Walking with children can be hard work, but it doesn’t have to be.
Before we became parents, my husband and I walked all over the UK. We have always loved the great outdoors and walking offered us both great exercise and an enjoyable and relaxing way to spend our free time together.
It doesn’t cost a penny and we have seen some amazing places on foot that we never would have seen. There are some beautiful and interesting places tucked away that you don’t even know exist until you go on a hike and stumble upon them.
When my son was born, it was always our hope that one day he would be able to join us on our adventures, so over the last 18 months we have slowly started to introduce him to the world of walking.
He has enjoyed it from day one. Just like any other child he moans about walking around the shops or walking somewhere if he’s bored but our hikes have never been a problem. I believe that this has been down to the way we introduced him to it and what we do on our walks.
Today I will share with you our secrets in the hope that you can get your children to enjoy walking too!
Oh my goodness, I’m scared to say it, but I think I’ve actually cured my Menieres Disease!
For the past few years I have been suffering from this awful disease which has been absolutely debilitating at times. Until I was diagnosed, I had never actually heard of it. What was to follow was days of being in bed, not being able to drive, not being able to leave the house. Basically, not being able to do anything for 48-72 hours at a time.
I couldn’t plan anything in advance because I never knew when I was going to be ill. My husband had to take time off work to care for my son because I just couldn’t do it.
Diggerland was my 7 year old son’s choice of birthday treat this year. We ask him each year whether he would like a party or a special day out and this year, much to my delight and relief, he chose a day out.
We love family days out and my son is crazy about all things to do with construction, so this was the perfect combination for us to celebrate his day.
There are currently four Diggerland locations across the UK. The current parks are in Kent, Devon, Durham and Yorkshire with another one planned for the not too distant future. We chose Devon because we keep our little caravan down there so it made sense to combine the two visits.
PARENTING A CHILD WITH ECZEMA AND ALLERGIES AND THE BENEFITS OF BEING A ‘WORK AT HOME MUM’
I gave up my career to become self employed 15 years ago (you can read my story here). This was long before I knew I would have the experience of parenting a child with Eczema and Allergies.
I always wanted to be at home if I had children. Being a work at home Mum was always my master plan. Little did I know just how valuable being able to work from home would prove to be later down the line! (more…)
